Imagine being able to see exactly where your friends are on a map, on your mobile phone! Well, Google's latest edition of Google Maps allows you to do just that. Called Google Latitude, the feature enables users to share their location with their friends, displaying their whereabouts on a map, at any given time.
Users will need to select the feature on their Google Maps, log into their Google account, and then send invites to those whose whereabouts they'd wish to see on a map. Once they accept the invitation, the user will be able to view their changing locations on a map, along with their Google avatars, status messages and -- depending on the information entered by them-- their contact information as well. In some countries (India, alas, is not one of them), you can even get the directions to take when heading to meet a friend.
And of course, if you do not want the world (or at least the part of it that is logged onto Google) to see where you are, then you can either manually enter a false location or simply disable the feature. The software is available in 27 countries for most popular mobile platforms, although an iPhone version has not been released yet.
To get it, just head to www.google.com/latitude.s
